Got the call from Capt Bob, he got the bait.
Same drill. I got grandson Owen to go.

Met Bob at the Bio Lab ramp at O-dark-thirty. ( 6-16-23)

Just outside the ramp we darn near limit trout in the first 20 minutes.

Head out to another spot, its red fish city. Biggest one was in the 20# range.
( no keepers , out of season on reds)

Move around to several spots, trout, trout, trout.

Limit.

The lagoon looks as healthy as I have seen it in 7 or 8 years.

Fileted the trout, in the fryer this evening.

Sounds fun.

Come on river, keep at it. I'd love to fish the 1,000 islands again.

South ML is about one of the only areas holding reasonable seagrass currently, not counting inlet areas. Just in case anyone is counting, 2010-11 was the "superbloom" followed by years of other blooms that rendered it not so super. Seagrass still at 20% or less when compared to historic cover. We're seeing some shallow areas colonized with Caulerpa, a "rooted" (ok, algae don't have roots) green algae that kind of fills the void that seagrass once occupied. Some years back, when the first Caulerpa got ID'd in the Lagoon it was "OMG! ALGAE!! It's the END of the Lagoon!!!". Now it's "Oh Caulerpa, yay (?), better than nothing." I think it's kinda like the Brazilian Pepper of the Lagoon.
