Hey an update! It took awhile, but it just got done. Got a few estimates from a few local drillers, prices ranged from $1,500 to $2,500 plus $/bag of cement cost too. Applied for SJRWMD well abandonment program (link below) and that's FREE. A guy from the district came by to check out the well and put it on their to-do list. When it came up in the rotation they gave me a heads up and it was done in one day plus an early morning clean up. No need to cut down overhead branches or use a drilling rig; they basically rigged up a small mud pump and mixed cement in a barrel, then pumped it down the hole until it was completely filled, top to bottom and all points in between (took 45 bags, well casing was toast). Afterwards they cut off the well head below grade and cleaned up the place, leaving no trace. Highly recommend this program to anyone with an old artesian well that's gone salty and/or leaking, there's plenty of them out there.
