Monday-Thursday...As mentioned, the start of the week will be much
colder as high pressure builds in behind the front along with drier
air. West winds will veer northwest by Monday morning remaining
elevated into the afternoon. By evening, PW values should drop from
0.40" to near 0.10" leading to much lower dewpoints and the
potential for the coldest air this season. Not much change in
Tuesday morning`s forecast temps, still dropping to the mid 30s in
northern Volusia and Lake counties which will by far be the coldest
spots. Elsewhere across central FL, temps will reach the upper 30s
to low 40s with even the Treasure Coast dropping well below 50
degrees. Daytime breezy conditions will taper off in the overnight,
so wind chills shouldn`t be much of a concern with "feels-like"
temperatures near to just slightly below the recorded air
temperature. Wednesday morning will be very similar although one to
two degrees warmer but still widespread temps below 40 degrees will
be anticipated especially in rural areas of central FL. High temps
both Monday and Tuesday will not even reach 70 degrees, but the 70s
will return mid week. Gradual warming is expected beyond Wednesday,
with a slight chance of showers returning just before the weekend.

Plants are confused over here. Oaks have dropped leaves and started flushing new. Blueberries are half blooming. Nun's Orchids are about to bloom. Tropical orchids in the yard never quit blooming and I just harvested a January pineapple. December was way too warm. Heck, dandelions were blooming in Virginia when I was up there last week.

My Jaboticaba are blooming and are holding developing fruit.

It's been a warm winter so far, so some cooler air is nice. Did yard work all day today. No sweat yard work is okay with me!

My jaboticaba remains unhappy and the two mangos aren't flowering. They might be in shock from heavy pruning. Some mangos nearby are loaded with flowers.
Laurel oaks are dumping leaves, normal this time of year. In Ft Pierce, they're flowering.

Best time to prune mango is right after fruit drop, but yeah, cutting back mango often slows them down 2 or 3 years for flowering.

Jaboticaba need water. Never let them dry out and use good quality water (not well water) I only use captured rain water for jaboticaba.

I ate a red jaboticaba yesterday and that is the best tasting fruit. Even the skin is good.

Hopefully this doesn't take out all the mango blooms, guess it is early either way.

It's soggy, but National Weather Service is predicting 29ยบ for Vero Beach. That would be the coldest in a while.

Friday-Saturday Night...A mid/upper-level trough will dig into the
southeast U.S. Friday and Friday night before lifting off the Mid-
Atlantic coast on Saturday. This will develop a surface low just
east of FL on Friday, which will then rapidly strengthen as it lifts
up and just offshore of the U.S. east coast Friday night and into
Saturday. Yet another cloudy day is expected with scattered light
showers on Friday, especially across northern areas, as low level
moisture remains high. Highs should be limited to he mid-upper 60s
across the north with more cloud cover, but more breaks in the
clouds are possible to the south, which could allow for some highs
in the 70s.

Some shower activity may linger into Friday evening or the early
portions of the overnight hours, but as the surface low continues to
lift north and deepen, it will send a strong cold front rapidly
through central Florida, ushering in a much drier and colder
airmass. Low temperatures will bottom out in the mid to upper 30s
north of Orlando and upper 30s to lower 40s to the south, except mid
40s toward Martin county. Increasing northwest winds to around 15
mph will make it feel even colder with wind chill readings ranging
from the upper 20s to the lower/mid 30s across much of the area,
likely requiring a Wind Chill Advisory.

Even with full sunshine on Saturday, strong cold air advection will
keep daytime high temperatures in the upper 40s to lower 50s (with
the high temperature for the entire calendar day likely to have
already occurred during the night or pre-dawn hours). Brisk
northwest winds of 15-20 mph with frequent gusts around 30 mph will
make it feel quite raw out.

Northwest flow will continue to advect very cold air into east
central FL Saturday night. Widespread sub-freezing temperatures,
with the exception of eastern Martin and some barrier island
communities, continue to be advertised by most model guidance,
providing the coldest night this season, and for some, the coldest
in several years. This will put temperatures in the upper 20s to
lower 30s, possibly mid 20s (Hard Freeze) for Lake and inland
Volusia county. Even though winds will not be quite as strong, the
temp/wind combination will still produce wind chills in the 30s
right around sunset Saturday evening, which will continue to drop
through the course of the night, reaching the low to mid 20s for
several hours.

Sunday-Wednesday...Very chilly and dry airmass will hold into Sunday
as high pressure stay centered over Florida. While not as cold as
Saturday, weak cold advection will continue, and high temperatures
will struggle to get out of the 50s despite full sunshine. Overnight
lows for Sunday night into Monday morning will be remain cold and
generally in the mid 30s, possibly reaching the freezing mark again
in the more wind-sheltered areas across the interior. With the
surface high forecast to be right over central Florida Florida,
winds will go light to calm, and frost development is looking
likely.

Temperatures will then start a warming trend into next week with
flow becomes more onshore as an expansive high pressure builds
across New England and the Canadian Maritimes. However, the airmass
will remain too dry to support any mentionable rain chances until
Tuesday night or Wednesday, where the onshore flow could bring
marine showers toward the coast.

Max temps return to the mid-upper 60s Monday, low 70s Tuesday, and
mid-upper 70s by Wednesday. Min temps rebound to the low-mid 40s for
Monday night and low-mid 50s Tuesday night.

I put out some plates of water around the yard and on top of the car to see if they freeze. Last time I saw a freeze was in 2010.

My low was 37F. Melbourne saw 30F.

Possible radiational freeze tonight in the area;

Tonight...Expected orientation of high pressure wl bring conds
favorable for radiation freeze across the interior south, with
widespread frost extending from there into rural areas west of I-95
from greater Melbourne-Palm Bay southward. In coord with adjacent
offices, a Freeze Warning for Okeechobee and (rural southern)Osceola
Counties is in effect tonight with a Frost Advisory for adjacent
portions from southern Brevard through Martin Cos. Widespread mins
in the L-M30s, a little warmer again toward the coast and colder
(around 30F to perhaps U20s) for the interior south.

National Weather Service Melbourne FL
315 PM EST Sun Jan 30 2022

.DISCUSSION...
Currently...High pressure dominates the area with surface
dewpoints and RH quite low across inland locations of central FL.
As winds will diminish quickly with dusk, temperatures will
quickly plummet as well at sunset.

Tonight and Monday...The 12Z guidance suite came in even colder
for the Treasure Coast and southern portions of the forecast area.
With high pressure settling squarely over the area, optimal
radiational cooling will produce a wider area of sub freezing
temperatures. The freeze warning for tonight was earlier expanded
to include the south Brevard, St. Lucie and Indian River counties.
Widespread frost is indicated north and west of Metro Orlando,
including the inland freeze warned areas of the Treasure Coast to
Lake Okeechobee. Locations over the Treasure Coast will likely
see even colder readings than what occurred Saturday night.

My method of coping - A pot of stone ground grits for breakfast and (Christmas carcass) turkey soup for lunch and dinner. Also, a well-stoked oak fire burning in my air-tight wood stove all day. Nice day.

I didn't lose a single plant. Not even a copperleaf that is first to show freeze burn. Lucky to be on South M.I.

Currently eating jaboticaba, kumquat, & star fruit.

On the non-2l plant forums, I see a lot of freeze damage. I like living in this little bubble micro-climate! Beachside seems to have escaped as well.
