I have lots of palm trees in my yard and finally got tired of hauling piles of downed fronds to the curb and the local landfill via Waste Management. I have also spent a lot of money on good hardwood mulch to landscape and replace water hungry turf grass. I finally went out on a limb and purchased a robust DK2 electric shipper with the idea that I would just turn the brown palm fronds into mulch.

Yes, the chipper is $2500 but this actually turned out to be a pretty good idea. I am making 10-12 equivalent bags of store bought mulch every couple of weeks chipping my palm fronds.

For what its worth.

Great idea! I never throw any yard debris to the end of the road. Never have. All mine goes back into mulch. Either just let it decay where it is or burn it in my fire pit and use the ash for fertilizer.

My yard generates lots of palm leaves. Should think about mulchifying.

Just think of all those nutrients you throw away by putting it at the end of the road for trash pick up.
