This became necessary after a belligerently drunk surfer mouthed off at them and a cycling surf checker assaulted one of their employees while they were cleaning up debris from Irma.

People just can't help themselves, dropping trash, blocking obvious owner parking spaces, and sometimes even parking in handicap spaces.

I saw a surfer with a board in hand talking to a cop at the private access the other day. The cones were still up and the black police car wasparked  in the solar canopy lot with its lights on

Really nice people that put up with a lot of crap for a long time. I thanked them everytime I saw them. I guess everyone has their limit. 

On another note, there will be a beach access at the south end of the new project once it's complete.

I have first hand info from "a cycling surf checker" about the owner screaming and backing into the handle bar of this cyclist, claimimg he assaulted her.

If you can put a gate up, then do it. If you cannot, then stop your whining LungRX.

Here is the word:

From the Chief Building Official of Satellite Beach,
1. United Therapeutics owns the land.
2. They built the boardwalk.
3. Treat them just like a beach front condo, if they wish to let you pass, that is their sole discretion. If they wish to block public access, they can.
4. He recommended using the north access at Scorpion Court.

I agree with whatever decision they make and apparently they have expressed their wish to block public access. I think they tried very hard but a few people may have spoiled this, dropping trash, taking up even their private parking spaces, etc.

I don't think this was the result of my bicycling friend, but this has been years in the making.

To Gabriel and family, I thank you for your patience.

Gabriel, thank you, your family and employees for bring tolerant and allowing us surfers to trespass on your property.

As you are now aware your piece of property is front and center on one of the best surf spots in central Florida.

No doubt we all took advantage first when you just allowing us foot traffic access, and further when we started parking there, especially in your employee parking spots.

The construction of the new condos made an already bad situation worse.

I frankly thought that you would have clamped down on us a long time ago - I would have if I were you.

Surfers are an excitable bunch when they are waves and tend to take want to rush into the water.  This is no excuse for us being either rude or disrespectful.

Are you planning to run again? You'll have my vote (again).  

I am also your neighbour down in MB and aware of your families many accomplishments and trials.

Thanks rc, then it is their decision. They have been nicer than most when it comes to use of their land. That sure is an expensive piece of property to run a business out of, I wish them the best.



I scored some fantastic sessions at the Light when the walkway was closed; less parking means less crowd. Win win.

Every swell when I drive by that parking lot is a zoo and is a dangerous intersection. Publix is going to close their parking lot off next. Towing is a good money maker for some and they have used tow trunks in the past. I forget how long it has been, maybe the 90s. But, they come in with an army of tow trunks and take all non-customer cars out. Take heed of the warning!

Surfers special

Private covered parking available close to RC's. Check out first months special at Satellite Beach Personal Mini Storage, 249 Scorpion CT.

Rent a surfers man cave with parking close to RC's. Drop in a mini fridge, big screen, and a sofa. Review your GoPro video before your trunks dry. How much would you pay for private parking? Keep in mind you will still have to walk across A1A, so this may not work for some.

As access to the beach changes so might our expectations.

It was only a matter of time.  Like others, I also always tried to pick-up trash in their parking lot as a show of gratitude and respect, and to help compensate for the blatent disrespect of the many clueless idiots...mostly younger surfers.

For me personally, however, it is really not such a big deal (other than for the easy surf check) as I can actually ride my bike (and almost walk!) there from my house quicker than I can drive there!

I really appreciate the kind words, and truly understand the frustration. At United Therapeutics we have a saying, 'Healthy change is good.'

As a few comments have mentioned, the mild inconvenience for the local surfer, is made up for by the diminished competition for the break.

United Therapeutics has a strong corporate social responsibility philosophy. All of the properties we own have some type of educational purpose, and environmental offset. We've tolerated the inconvenience, because we believe that the awareness of solar energy and native landscaping was more important.

Intentionally or not, the fact remains, I asked the cyclist twice, politely, not to enter while we were cleaning the storm debris and he continued anyways. He did infact collide with my colleague, and continued on without concern for her welfare. Legally, that's a hit and run. So, say what you will, but he's no gentlemen, and now a wanted criminal. 

There is an easement agreement in place, pending the completion of Oceana Towers, for a public access between the N side of our lot, and the South side of Oceana. I imagine it will be late 2018 at the earliest for that to be completed.

Finally, I came here because I believe you all are the reason we could maintain tolerance, not why we lost it. And what hurts most in this, is knowing innocent people pay the price for others poor judgement.

Onward.

P.S. I'm exploring running for Agriculture Commissioner in 2018, but haven't ruled out challenging Posey again.

i apologize on behalf of 2ndlight, most surfers aren't like what you've experienced. the interaction your employee had is, needless to say, embarassing.

you should continue to tow and continue to post trespass signs. that is your private land and in no way do you owe us anything. we can park north or south and merely walk. we have 2 perfectly good legs we've just become lazy.

I hope you are kidding when you say this person is a wanted criminal. If you aren't, I think you will lose a lot of votes.

At least it is not as bad as it was back in the early to mid 90's. That crazy fat guy used to block cars in until the tow trucks came. 

 

The year was 1987 and I was doing a wave check at the north parking lot of Ramada, and they were on again, off again on allowing us to park and or check the waves (sound familiar).
This redneck tow truck neanderthal, missing link, said something rude. I told him I was just checking it, but he threatened me and I flipped him off and took off. He chased me in his tow truck at speeds in excess of 80 mph. We tore through neighborhoods of north Satellite before I finally lost him.

Said bicyclist road past an argument of passion whereby the "owner" was standing on foot in their parking lot screaming at 2 surfers also on foot with surfboards in hand, briefly checked the waves, rode back out towards A1A when the spastic "owner" backed into the handle bar of said bicyclist traveling at 1mph, almost knocking said bicyclist over as said bicyclist recovered and continued on.

If anything, said bicyclist was assaulted as their peaceful path was interrupted.

This is a witchhunt nothing burger.

Nobody will ever step foot on the "great ones" property ever again now that their wishy-washy state has finally settled on the negatory.

The owners were being WAY more than tolerant for a long period of time - and were actually being excellent hosts to be quite frank..

If you personally owned the property, would you tolerate the way they, and the property, was being treated?

How would any of you have reacted if it was your own property? Tell the truth out loud and shame the devil.

Trash strewn about, stacked parking, people taking their spots next to the building?

We all gradually started using the place like it was public property and we had a right to be there - we never had any 'right' ever - period.

They put trashcans etc on the boardwalk.  

Wonder why they ended up doing that? Who do you thing emptied them? Did you? the city? F no...

It was getting out of control.. Beer cases filling up the trashcans so there was not room for trash.. Trash on the ground.. Party central..

Do you think that they would have reacted differently if someone came after the hurricanes and asked if they could help with the cleanup..

This whole thing could have gone in a totally different direction..

Dkaye, I have never seen you surf. When you use the term "kook", what context are you in? Bad surfer? Mad minded surfer (i.e. one who voted Rep vs. Dem)?
I surf and surf well enough not to be referred to as such (me thinks). So if this is the latter rather than the former, then this is about politics? If so, your guy just took a natural resource from us, the surfers, some agricultural commisioner.

If this is about said bicyclist, well many folks who surf our spot know this person, they just don't have a name. This person rips, is peaceful, and would never harm anyone intentionally.

Pretty sure the crazy tow truck guy was from "Surf's Up" towing or maybe "AuTow Image." I dodged him a few times in the old Ramada lot.



I didn't want to participate in this thread, but to complain about having something "taken" that was never yours is ridiculous.

If a bicyclist is in a 1 mph collision with a pedestrian, a simple apology usually smooths everything over. Not sure how such a mundane situation could have escalated.

Imagine if the people using the owner's lot had offered to help with some cleanup, instead of walking by with indifference. It reminds me of surfers who travel to a foreign country, contribute nothing, and expect the locals to cater to them. Except hurricane prep and post-storm cleanup can be stress factors that put people on edge, which may have been part of the case at LungRx.

An oceanfront homeowner yelled at me for using a public, but damaged and roped-off dune crossing, after the 2004 storms. He was concerned that I was compromising the dunes that basically helped protect his house, even though I just climbed on wood. But he was out repairing his roof while I was sightseeing, and it may have just rubbed him the wrong way. But I didn't yell back or anything.

Honestly I would have stopped people from parking a long, long time ago. There were enough people being disrespectful to the property and leaving trash to warrant it ages ago.
