Seems like the GOP is not going to have to defend the party of trump once he can't do anything for them anymore. The tax cuts and supreme court appointments are over and there's nothing on the horizon. I think they jettison him.

The people automatically assuming the rape accusations are purely a political move from the right are unfortunately every bit as bad as the people on the left that assume everything is automatically racist when it involved someone white.
'She had all this time to say something, why now?', and all this other nonsense. Sure, she could be full of shit but odds are that it is more likely was just a girl that was overpowered by a much larger and drunk guy that attempted to rape her. Shouldn't be shocking given that this pretty much happens on a daily basis on college campuses all around the country for pretty much ever. Why wait until now? Easy, seeing your attempted rapist on television about to be put into a position where he would have control over policy that affect, lives dredges up the past that she had probably tried to put behind her. Good on her, if she is legit, for having to relive some of those feelings to bring this issue with his character forward. |

I think that an attempted rape 35 years ago is worth knowing about, however, the criminal defense attorney in me has a problem with an accusation that is so old that it cannot be verified beyond the sworn testimonies of the accuser and the sworn denial of the accused. Kavanaugh has already been a federal Judge appointed for life for years and nothing has ever come up. I think this might slow down his confirmation but without more than conflicting sworn statements, this is a dead end.

Doesn't surprise me one bit that these allegations never came up in the context of a background check for any appointment less than a supreme court appointment, because such appointments are not front page news. Why would these allegations come up in previous background checks, unless the FBI spoke with the accuser directly? I would guess that until now, Kavanaugh's accuser was not following his career, or had any knowledge of background checks on this guy. I would even guess that it would not occur to most non-lawyers that appointees to federal judgeships are subject to background checks, and the need for people in the know to speak up given judges' extraordinary power.
Not to mention the volumes of problems with this appointee, without a rape / assault allegation, such as his hypocrisy and habit of letting his political and personal views influence his legal positions, (wildly different positions re: executive privilege depending on who's in office - see - Clinton - Lewinsky, O'Bama, and Trump), I would be surprised to learn that the accuser's allegations are not true. The accuser has zero motivation to make this up, and Kavenaugh has every motivation to lie about this. In fact, I can think of loads of reasons for the accuser to not speak up - she appears to have pretty good life without this.
Hopefully: a) Kavenaugh comes to terms with this, admitting he did a terrible and not normal thing, even as a teenager - setting a good example for young people - this is not "boys will be boys" incident, like farting in your sibling's face; b) he gets removed from any consideration as a supreme court pick & gets removed from any federal judgeship; c) and the conservative right leaders grow some balls and morals - stop being afraid of Trump & stop trying to convince themselves that the ends justifies the means, which truly is the beginning of the end of a just and decent society.

You do have a point. Nobody would know that, but the motivation to lie or tell the truth exists whether there is proof or not. Being able to prove or disprove something requires evidence and after 35 years, that will be hard to produce for the accuser and the accused. That is why the criminal courts have statutes of limitations.

Appearing on a fox news interview, particularly before the vote, in and of itself should be disqualifying for this nominee. Same goes for a nominee selected by a democrat, appearing on CNN. Despite the lip service of non-partisanship from every supreme court nominee and justice, you would think a nominee would avoid like the plague, an interview with arguably the most partisan major network, so they can at least say they are non-partisan. Looking at the clips of Kavanaugh's interview, he is unconvincing, leaving little doubt that his accusers' versions of events are accurate.
So we have a nominee with "zero" common sense, who is openly partisan, and who is probably a proven liar and sexual molester. Well done - Republican leaders. Just choose someone else from the thousands of qualified right leaning jurists, who at least have a little bit of candor and decency.

From Daily Wire: All four people who can "corroborate" her claims were told in the years after her 2012 therapy sessions - where she never used Kavanaugh's name - about the alleged incident from over 35 years ago. One of the people listed is her husband, the other three are close friends of hers. USA Today reports: In her declaration, Adela Gildo-Mazzon said Ford told her about the alleged assault during a June 2013 meal at a restaurant in Mountain View, California, and contacted Ford's attorneys on Sept. 16 to tell them Ford had confided in her five years ago. In another declaration, Keith Koegler said Ford revealed the alleged assault to him in 2016, when the two parents were watching their children play in a public place and discussing the "light" sentencing of Stanford University student Brock Turner. In another declaration, Rebecca White, a neighbor and friend of more than six years, said Ford revealed the alleged assault against her in 2017. In his declaration, Ford's husband said he learned of his wife's experience with sexual assault "around the time we got married" but that she didn't share details until a couple's therapy session in 2012. Except there are problems there too. Only two of the people say she used Kavanaugh's name, her husband who claims she said it in 2012 after the therapy session and Koegler who says she only said the name in June 2018, after Kennedy's resignation. Otherwise, she said "a federal judge." And the statements don't change the problems with the allegations that have already been outlined. 1. That all of the four witnesses she claims were at the alleged party say there never was such a party, including her lifelong friend Leland Keyser who claims she never met Brett Kavanaugh and was never at such a party with him. 2. She didn't tell anyone until she told the therapist in 2012, but she never told the therapist Kavanaugh's name. 3. That her story of who was at the party and in the room has varied. She told the therapist there were four boys in the room. Then she told the WaPo that that was a mistake that there were two boys in the room, but four boys at the party. But only three boys were ultimately named. No mention is made of Leland Keyser in the WaPo story who the WaPo knew was not supportive of Ford's claim. Then in her original letter that she sent to Feinstein she said that there were four people at the party besides herself (total). And Paul Sperry notes some further problems: 4. "Her own immediate family doesn't appear to be backing her up, either," Sperry writes. "Her mother, father and two siblings are all conspicuously absent from a letter of support released by a dozen relatives, mostly on her husband's side of the family." 5. "In another inconsistency, Ford told The Washington Post she was upset when Trump won in 2016, because Kavanaugh was mentioned as a Supreme Court pick," Sperry writes. "But Kavanaugh wasn't added to Trump's list of possibles until November 2017, a full year later." 6. She's saying she ran out of the house and went home, left her friend with boys who just tried to attack her and never told her friend about the incident. And that apparently her friend was never concerned enough about her just disappearing from the party to ask, according to her version of events. It's possible that she came to believe it was true after therapy. But that doesn't mean it is true. Maybe the Senate should consider the likelihood that this could end in his impeachment. If any of the three accusers appears to have a case for state prosecutors in Maryland, there is no statute of limitations. I have know idea, but 4 decades old allegations with no corroboration (even her life long friend doesn't remember being at a party with Kavaughan), by a rabid anti-Trump democratic activist isn't enough for me to label somebody I've never met a perv.
If the tables were turned, I'd probably be pointing out somebody else's flawed faith in the 2 party system. I get some weird joy out of pointing out hypocrisies.

My life time friend doesn't remember any of this ( and the other 3 people I said were there testified under oath they don't know anything about this). Oh and that polygraph, it was only two questions, neither of which were about Kavanaugh. But hey, I passed so that's all that matters. And my PhD in psychology definitely, in no way, helped me with it or my testimony today. My friends on the beach encouraged me to continue contacting the media with my story (because we were running out of time). I can't name them, so we'll just call them beach friends. Yet while giving such great advice, none were willing to be character witnesses. Meanwhile, Judge Kavanaugh had hundreds of character witnesses step up in a matter of days. My lawyers, out of the kindness of their hearts, are helping me for FREE yet I have a "needed" gofundme page that currently is sitting at $473,622. I'm so desperately in need of help there's even a second gofundme with $209,987. I promise though I'm not getting anything out of my testimony, that money is just going to cover my expenses. I'm super smart. I have a PhD and I teach graduate students. I know lots of big words, but it should be totally believable that I don't understand basic questions. I was the only person in the United States that didn't know Congress agreed to come to me instead of me going to DC. They really do care about my flying phobia after all.
