Trump adviser Roger Stone's indictment in the Mueller probe suggests conspiracy charges may still be forthcoming

On January 25, Roger Stone was arrested by special counsel Robert Mueller's team for making false statements to Congress, obstructing justice and witness tampering. At their core, Stone's alleged crimes involve covering up his involvement with the WikiLeaks release of stolen Democratic National Committee emails in the summer of 2016. But Stone's indictment arguably buries the lead, because contained within his 24-page indictment are the evidentiary building blocks of a conspiracy that includes participation by "senior Trump Campaign officials," even as the Mueller probe appears to approach its final act.

Stone's indictment reads like a typical conspiracy indictment, only without the conspiracy charge. Notably, there are several other individuals referenced in the Stone indictment (i.e., Person 1 - presumably Jerome Corsi; Person 2 - presumably Randy Credico; etc.). But most problematic for the Trump campaign are the following two passages: "During the summer of 2016, Stone spoke to senior Trump Campaign officials about Organization 1 [known to be WikiLeaks] and information it might have had that would be damaging to the Clinton Campaign;" "After the July 22, 2016 release of stolen DNC emails by Organization 1, a senior Trump Campaign official was directed to contact Stone about any additional releases and what other damaging information Organization 1 had regarding the Clinton Campaign."

One obvious question raised by the Stone indictment is, who is the person that "directed" the senior Trump campaign official to undertake this criminal coordination with Stone? It seems logical that such a person would need to be pretty senior themselves, if they were directing another "senior official" to do something. (Then again, there is one "junior" person who might have had the requisite status to direct a senior campaign official - Donald Trump Jr.) Right now the only thing we can do is wait for further charges to materialize, or Mueller's report to Congress.

The Stone indictment also serves as a preview of indictments to come. The dots are getting easier and easier to connect. We learned in July 2018, via a separate Mueller indictment, that Russian operatives did indeed hack into the DNC's computers and steal emails - emails that were then transferred to and weaponized by WikiLeaks. With the Stone indictment we learned that Stone, in cooperation with Corsi, Credico and others, communicated with WikiLeaks' founder Julian Assange about the timing and subject matter of email releases. Senior Trump campaign officials also coordinated with Stone, with the apparent goal of using the stolen emails to hurt Hillary Clinton and thus help Trump win the election.

I've got to give it to Mueller. He is one ruthless mf'er. He basically just sentenced 69-year old Manafort to die in prison, for some relatively minor stuff, because he was close to Trump, he didn't have any dirt on Trump, and wouldn't make anything up. Mueller operates with a level of vindictiveness that is rarely seen in scorned women. Most women wouldn't do what the Mueller team did to Manafort to their ex-husband who f'd their best friend.

I take that back. Mobs and gangs would do this shit to their enemies all day.

Manafort got a gift. His sentence was lower than any other defendant that faced his guidelines. Your feelings about how mean a prosecutor are take the case out of the context of crime and punishment (without addressing the minimizing of tens of millions dollars hidden and laundered) and puts it into a context of an what mueller did. Mueller colluded with New York AG Eric Schneiderman to prosecute Manafort the way they did and prevent him from being eligible for any type of pardon.

Schneiderman was forced to resign over charges of breaking one woman's jaw and assaulting three more. Miraculously, Schneiderman was never charged with any crime. He just had to resign. All reports show that the witnesses were credible but there were "legal hurdles" with charging him with anything.

So, nothing seems ruthless to you about a special counsel colluding with a corrupt New York AG, who has no problems breaking a lady's jaw, to target an individual in a way that prevents that individual from receiving any kind of pardon and guarantees that he will die in prison?

Who's more dangerous to society? 69-year-old Manafort or this sick F of an AG who gets off on breaking women's jaws and beating them?

Seems appropriate for a prosecutor to share knowledge of crimes that happened in other jurisdictions, so they can be prosecuted.

The facts are that minorities are convicted at higher rates for crimes that are committed at higher rates by non minorities. The same is true for racial discrepancies in sentencing. Minorities consistently get longer sentences.

The special counsel colluded with a corrupt, partisan, AG out of New York to specifically target an individual and created the worst possible situation for that person, by design.

I have no admiration for Manafort. He deserves to be punished but I've never seen this done before. This type of vindictive behavior encourages the Republicans to seek revenge. It pushes the needle on what is acceptable to a point that I'm not all that comfortable with it. Congress is not the judicial branch and ruining the life of the President and as many people close to him as possible is not their job. If you guys think that the Democrats can do this type of stuff, get one of their guys back in the office, and the then everything goes back to normal, I'm pretty positive you are going to be wrong. If Hillary thinks she is out of the woods, she has lost her mind. She probably could have been fine if Democrats hadn't completely lost the ability to lose gracefully.

Yes, the probe turned into an investigation because they found wrongdoing. The same can't be said for Benghazi, but that's beside the point, Republicans stayed on attack for several years, even though nothing was found. That's the fucking point.

I am not particularly sympathetic to white collar criminals. When they conduct their seemingly victimless thefts, you and I pay for it. If Mr. Manafort didn't like the idea of "dying in prison", he could have stayed on the right side of the law.
