When did something like having pride in your country become entirely too spicy for those on the left?

Do you not think that people born in France, Ireland, England, Brazil etc do not take pride in their countries? The left would be perfectly fine with any people from basically any country having pride in where they are from but they cringe at any sign of Americans taking pride in their country.

The Japanese had a rough go at things for a while and most Japanese people are very proud and patriotic about being from Japan. Same with Germany. Why does the left get so uncomfortable with the idea of Americans being patriotic?
