OBX for an easy, summer-time surf trip still a god bet

I haven't been in years. I doubt I'll have a chance to surf there again, but judging from the cars that spot must not be too hard to get there. How much will it cost me to find out a little more about it?

That is a HUGE south swell. The cape at Hatteras points directly south. I would be willing to bet most of those vehicles were driven in by folks fishing. You can purchase a driving pass for the day or week to take vehicles on the beach. You can also rent a 4X4 locally to use on the beach. The closest place to park without driving in the sand is about 1 mile from the point.  A great place to stay is Frisco Woods Campground. If you don't want to mess with a tent they have basic cabins with AC and screens for sleeping. No kitchen/bathroom or running water inside. Can get a little sharky down by the point.>>

Nope. Closed due to nesting. I heard the latest was about 40 miles closed.

That photo is from a hurricane swell a few years back...during Easterns I think. Either from Dugan or Mez.

Is it always closed or just temporairly. Stayed in Buxton abut 5 years ago and didn't drive on the beach. Between Frisco and the lighthouse we caught it all time. Now that I'm seeing the point break I want to go back!

Checked Kill Devil Hills.  Currently 4-5 ft bumpy surf, "Recent S/SW winds have led to some upwelling in the Northern Outer Banks. Pockets of upper 40s to low 50s should be expected in places."

You need to check a different spot. I just got out, straight offshore...

If Audubon has their way ..... their will be no beach driving anywhere & anytime on the entire OBX

From what I've heard, it's permanently closed...for the moment at least. Bird nesting/habitat.
