Don't you love these big southern hemisphere storms that provide the Pacific coast with lots of lead time?  Surfline predicts 22 sec, peaking Mon. 05/04.  SWA can book MCO-SAN, May 1, return May 5 for $357.

Or you could fly to Central America round-trip for $280

Looks a bit late for San Salvador.  Still, in a period of bloated air fares, it impresses me that these southern ocean swells take long enough to travel that it can be feasible to snag low air fares.

I'm glad they don't all fly here when we get a swell.

I'm ensuring swell here, flat at Outer Banks with a May trip up there.  I think I'll end up looking at Nags Head Woods, Buxton Woods, Jockey Ridge, history and so forth.

OC Register headline said there were hordes this weekend.  It looks like a serious problem for Newport Beach.

If I were still in Encinitas I would be heading south to Baja.  There are still a few secrets and semi secret spots to be had down there and since the drug wars heated up again it is pretty empty. I know some people that live down in Ensinada full time. They say the Drug runners are only killing each other and they feel safe. But most tourist are staying home.   A place we named Brothers point works well on big south swells smaller then most places If K38 is 6 foot Brothers will be 4 to 5 foot  but it is a fun wave and surfing with just four or 5 good friends is it's own reward.

I haven't checked State Department or British travel advice recently, but State has often had detailed suggestions for Mexico and Central America.  Last time I looked, they emphasized that much of Mexico is safe.

Americans seem to be easily spooked.

KTLA at the Wedge.  Camera operator gets a few good shots of surfers, reporter talks with a 13 year old carrying a nice product plug--VISSLA on his board.

Here's some conventional 720p footage of boarders making it, and not.

When the blackball went up at 10 am, it looks like the water emptied and only a few bodysurfers showed up.  After recent reconsideration of blackball rules, I wonder whether bodysurfing hours might get cut further.

One of the recruiters I'm working with called me last night to let me know the surf was bombing and if j took there offer I wouldn't have to be missing it.

That was a new approach.

Shapewright, That really is to bad about your ride out to Ralphs. I was part owner in a Columbia 26. Fred and I surfed Ralph's a lot in the earlyin the late 70s, 80's. The wave is faster then Malibu on a good  chest high to over head swell.  Paddled out there once in my kayak, testing how difficult it would be carry a board and gear in an Ocean Kayak.  Got major stink eye from the Navy as I passed the Submarines.
