I had Mohs done on a spot on my for head last year. It's back again in the same spot. Not sure if they just didn't get it all or if this is not uncommon. I hate to go back to the same place and give em more money if they mucked it up the first time.

That is strange as Mohs is suppose to check the margins as it cuts. Sounds like a screw up.

I've only had skin cancer removed the old fashion way...with a scalpel....then biopsy.

Here's a publication from 2011 that has some numbers

The 5-year recurrence rates of 587 aggressive and/or recurrent facial basal cell carcinomas treated during 1993 to 2003 at our centre were studied retrospectively. The resulting 5-year recurrence rates using Kaplan-Meier survival analysis were 2.1% for primary (previously untreated) tumours, 5.2% for recurrent basal cell carcinomas and 3.3% overall. In total, 87.9% of the tumours required at least two stages of Mohs micrographic surgery. The surgical defect's size after complete excision was, on average, approximately twice the size of the defect after excision of the clinically visible tumour with a 2-3 mm margin.

untreated (aka: first time being treated) tumors - 2.1% chance of recurrence

tumors that have already reccured at least once - 5.2% chance of recurrence

"Overall" = 3.3% chance

Sounds to me like they didn't get it all. I had a non cancerous mole removed and it initially healed fine and appeared to be completely gone. Within a month it was showing pigment and 6 months later it's almost completely grown back into the same shape and size it originally was, just not raised. I'd call the Dr. up and see what they say!

I had a Squamous pop up three times in the same spot on a finger. Gone now, for now.

This would be my worst nightmare. I had MOhs on my lower lip for Squamous cell carcinoma. They ended up taking over a third of it off to make sure all the margins were gone. I assumed that this procedure would mean they got it all for good. Maybe go to a different Dr. this time.

I've been lucky with my nose, almost 15 years now.  Oddly enough, the only comment I ever got on its butchered appearance was from a plastic surgeon, who said the repair job (it took a skin graft) looked really good.
