This video show the vacuum bagging technique in surfboard lamination. Pretty interesting. You can pretty much start at 4 minutes in. Some of you might recognize the dude at the end. Funny how hard he hits the board too.

Not sure. I know its common with a lot of the wood laminates in order to keep them tight on the foam while the epoxy is curing.

yes, this info is somewhat dated but Tom Neilson (tomtube on here, not me) was taking some boards to Jax (I think) for bagging/lamination

real nice work too!

Surfboard "bagging" is pretty rudimentary when compared to aerospace processes.

For our purposes, if you already have an air compressor, you're in the vacuum business with one of these: Venturi vacuum generator.

You can also buy a vacuum pump for $50-60. Also, after I mix a lot of epoxy or poly you can pull a vacuum on it and it takes out any air bubbles in the mix. Just be careful to just fill it container to about 1/3 full, the mix will foam up pretty high while the air is removed but settled pretty quick. Good for those bubble free finishes.
