The movie is on for free on HDNET brighthouse. I just finished watching it and it looks like it comes on again tonight at 11.
What an awesome film! I was intrigued through the whole movie. What an interesting family. I had no idea about them. The movie is not what I expected for sure. Watch it, its a good one!!! |

It was listed on the guide for Direct TV and I tried to watch it last night, but unfortunately that wasn't one of the several hundred channels I get.

Can somebody record it for the cable challenged? The Paskowitz family used to come to Florida every year back in the day. They would park their motor home at the pier and spend a month or so. We always looked forward to their visits. I'm sure Freesurfs remembers the old times with them.

Way cool things coming from this. I believe it is coming to the BIGSCREEN sometime soon. Interviiew with Doc and Juliette on Fuel TV's Daily Habit last night. It will probably air again, as they usually do.

Its on Netflix. Just watched it. I am so torn.... I think everyone on here wishes that they could leave the world of materialism and institutions behind and just surf. 9 kids, a 25' camper and no school. They went everywhere. Even the kids are deeply conflicted about the freedom and lack of structure. The guy was 85 when the movie was made. Still surfing. The Kids still surf. They all surf very well. It was sad to see them fight amongst themselves so much, knowing that they were so close.

I've watched it a few times, and remember reading about the Paskowitz family when I was a kid, Surfer mag. I always dreamed of living their lifestyle, but only managed month long holidays on a few occasions. I'm nothing but a rat racer, and my kids don't get a fraction of the unstructured play time they need. The American Dream is really a materialistic tragedy.

I'm not sure how well I would have handled my parents getting busy ten or so feet away. Just imagine laying in the dark and being gently swayed by the motion of the pushin.

Surfing an epic head high day at the old Patrick/Space/No/Dis-a Pier and a rickety RV, boards stacked like cord wood on the roof, rumbles into the parking lot. Then like clowns spilling outta a tiny car, people of all ages pile out, unload the boards, scramble down the rocks (no boardwalk & stairs in those prehistoric days) and head for the surf.
Their is an audible grown from the manageable group that has been sharing the epic head high day ....... bleeping insta crowd!!!!! But the interlopers all paddle out as a group away from the current manageable group and proceed to share waves with themselves, whoop&holler and have a big ol time. It was the Paskowitz's ------------------------- "Most people would die sooner than think; in fact, they do." - Bertrand Russell "Morality is doing what is right, regardless of what you are told. See that's the thing I cant square with all of the dysfunction. There had to be so many great moments surfing punctuating the long hours in cramped tight spaces. And I think it did have a big effect on the kids to have loud sex every night. Most kids have a story about walking in on it or hearing it once or twice, for them it was literally every night. That's got to wear you down. They also said that they didn't have enough clothes to get them all dressed at one time. That's tough. Its hard to believe they kept it together so long. In spite of it all, they had something beautiful.
