If you are suggesting the "they" weakened Florence. Perhaps you can look at the last 36hrs of satellite based water vapor imagery and dropsonde data that show a huge layer of really low humidity air between 20k and 30k feet that got entrained into the system from the south. Then tell us how that should affect a storm. Levi Cowen at "tropical tidbits" has a good summary on his site.
