There just doesn't seem to be any planning for capacity. Gridlock is coming.

RE : With Airbnb, my neighborhood is becoming a direct holiday destination : Got Four of the Damn rentals on my block and another Four more on the next street over . I used to know almost everybody on my block , now there is a constant parade of complete strangers walking around . This is the new trend ( esp in Cocoa Beach ) gut the neighborhood of the longtime locals and replace them with short term rentals . It is all about MONEY and MORE MONEY , like fucking Pigs eating at a trough . God help us !

Local leaders' lip service of "family values" "family community" "safe neighborhoods" etc. is an absolute joke. Short term rentals eventually kills the community. What will happen when the numbers no longer justify having public schools beachside? For the few beachside neighborhoods in County - Mel Bch, Snug Harbor and some others(?), the County refuses to enforce 3 mos. minimum rentals unless you complain alot, give a name (which I think is a state law), and literally ride the code enforcement people every day. Shame on the County for not chasing these down with a hammer, in areas where it's illegal. Totally agree - my neighborhood slowly transforming into a place where I recognize fewer and fewer people, with no incentive to keep the neighborhood solid. And shame on the beachside communities refusing to "fight the fight" over the terrible court decision limiting municipality's ability to self govern, exercise home rule, and prohibit short terms. If there was ever an issue to fight the hard and expensive battle, that's it. Feb. - April or May will always be hoppin around here. But...as to the title of this thread- no question short term rentals has had negative impacts, benefitting a minority of owners. You're right - the greed is disturbing - capitalism without ethics.

Code enforcement is a re-active org, that is the illegal Air BNB must be complained about first before they will do anything. It's real easy but you cannot remain anonymous . Sat Beach and Cocoa bch are screwed they allow for it in the by-laws sucks to live there, Mel-Beach is not so friendly but they still allow a few. I feel for Sat Bch and Cocoa Bch, you will have to vote a law in against air bnb's. Good luck, we in Unincorporated Brevard Co. will fight to hang onto the 3 month rental min.

If the bottom line says that it is more profitable then building yet ANOTHER new hotel , and they can find the land and get zoning approved --- then the next trend might very well be ENTIRE short term rental DEVELOPMENTS beach side ? Once again , God help us !
