another central power grab from local governments
The Florida Constitution seems to make clear who runs local schools: "The school board shall operate, control, and supervise all free public schools within the school district and determine the rate of school district taxes within the limits prescribed herein."
Circuit Judge John Cooper has scheduled a hearing on a lawsuit brought by parents from a half-dozen Florida counties urging that limits be lifted on mandatory masking in schools as students return to class in many Florida counties.

The lawsuit accuses DeSantis of a power grab, saying the prohibition on mask requirements violates the state constitution, which guarantees not only safe schools but also grants power solely to local school boards to operate, control, and supervise classes within their districts.
