In the market for a new board. Been looking at Jay smiths Clever surfboards in NSB. He works with Eco - friendly eps/epoxy blanks, I'm an epoxy whore.  Looking at the Fish Jet  model specifically for an " all- a- rounder" to travel with and use on good days here in FL.

Anyone ever ridden or have experience with Clever? Please enlighten me.

Jay burned me one day in smyrna, then on the beach tried to give me one of his business cards. I'm sure he's an otherwise nice guy, but burning people clearly isn't good for business! I wont be buying a Clever anytime soon

I've had a few of his boards. I can say they are built to last. The epoxy he uses is top notch, and he doesn't skimp on the glass or resin. I had an epoxy board from another local shaper that I bought at about the same time, and after a year with about the same amount of use, Jays board stayed noticeably whiter and less yellowed.

i surfed with Jay at typhoon lagoon way back in the day, like 15 years ago.  He actually did my first custom board.  A lot of his shapes are spinoffs from other mainstream shapers, but he has some solid formulas for the florida waves too.  I've owned 3 of his boards, never had any problems with them.

I met Jay at ESF this year while Fisher Grant was surfing in the final of men's LB comp on his Clever log... He held his own against Steve McLean and Justin Quintal, so there must have been some magic in that stick.  I actually thought he surfed better than Steve in that heat and should have taken the second place check from my hand on stage instead of third.
