Only people I've seen locally riding Cymatics have been riding them much longer than their height, but all recommendations are that the Cymatic should be ridden 3-4" shorter than your normal shortboard. Anyone on here riding a Cymatic in this shorter size range?
Obviously the footage of Kelly on a 5'3" at 10' Haleiwa is mind blowing, but I'm interested to hear any ride reports on how a short Cymatic goes in our surf. |

IMO, that board looks too small for him.

He gets a lot of speed off that bottom turn.

Looks to be pretty "fun"!
BUT, , , , just as with many other "new designs" like this, you must take it with a very, very, heavy dose of "You Aint Kelly" and "Brevard Waves Are Crap". ------------------------- Dora Hates You |

I have two of them. Both 5'6" stock dims. I'm 6'3" and 185-190 lbs.
I love it on all size waves although for me when riding ledgy barreling waves the nose kind digs in a little bit when dropping in late but it handles nicely once you get over the ledge.
My recommendation would be to get one that has similar volume as your standard short board since the dimensions on these things are hard to grasp on their own. My 5'6" paddles as well as my 6'0" "step up" with the same volume.

I'm 5'11" and ride a 5'9". I've always ridden 6'0" boards and was intimidated by the Cy...til I trusted it and just went for it. Now I absolutely love it. It's my favorite board of all time. The volume is just right and is in the right place - the middle of the board - giving me way more stability than I expected. The thing plane's beautifully and turns instantly. I'm an old guy and this board is helping me rip, even the fast, steep shorebreak we get here in Jupiter.

How's the board handling our flat waves (FL) ? Looks like an interesting board.

Kelly on it in more normal waves.

Looks just like Slater but that's actually a guy named Noel Salas I think. He does a pretty good board review and rips pretty good too even though he's not quite Kelly =). For an average Joe he makes that board look pretty good.
