Looks like Donzo took a chainsaw to his MAGA promises instead

Yes, MASA..

Make Argentina Solvent Again!

Argentina gets $20 billion in US aid

Buenos Aires, Argentina - President Javier Milei returned to Argentina from his New York City trip with far more than new photos. After meeting with President Donald Trump and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, the libertarian secured a massive aid package from the United States that helped dispel worries about a future default on Argentina's debt.

The Maga and America First folks should be fking pissed over this.

On top of that, this bailout benefits Treasury Secretary Bessent and his friends personally.

Yeah, more grifting....
That is the hallmark of Trump's administration.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent's $20 billion Argentinian bailout is not only poised to prop up President Javier Milei's anarcho-capitalist regime with U.S. taxpayer dollars; it's also set to deliver a significant windfall to one of Bessent's old friends, per a Monday report by Judd Legum at Popular Information.

Robert Citrone, a billionaire who founded the hedge fund Discovery Capital Management, has a decadeslong relationship with Bessent that's gone unreported in the U.S. press.

Legum cites descriptions in Latin American business publications of Bessent and Citrone's friendship, including one paper that notes their "personal relationship as well as a past working relationship." He also reports that when they were co-workers at Soros Fund Management, Citrone, by his own account, gave Bessent highly profitable investment advice.

Since Milei's ascendance, Citrone has bet big on the Argentine economy. But amid the recent economic downturn under Milei, his Argentine investments were in trouble.

Enter Bessent. Last week, the treasury secretary announced a $20 billion currency swap line that, Citrone told Bloomberg, "has helped tremendously" and "will pay dividends for the U.S. strategically." It's certainly boosted Citrone's holdings. (Notably too, Legum writes, "In early September, days before Bessent's announcement, Citrone purchased more Argentine bonds.")

This wasn't the first time the U.S. treasury secretary has seemingly pleased Citrone by acting on Argentina's behalf.

Imagine, if you will, an election in some corner of the world where a socialist is elected and undertakes a radical re-organization of the economy.
Two years later, that imaginary socialist needs $20 billion to prop up his democratic economy due to capital flight and lack of confidence by international capital.

What would the right and center right press say about that in the USA and around the world? Would they praise his creativity and readily volunteer American taxpayer funds toward the project?

Rusty, they would freak the fuck out. That's what they would do.

As for the $20 billion? It will be a loss. Their president's plan is systemically broken. We just put expensive air in the tires of a car with a blown engine.

^Nitrogen. Costs more, does nothing, but you get those groovy green valve stem caps that tell the world how much you care for your car with the blown engine.

A photo snapped by the AP's Angelina Katsanis during last Tuesday's United Nations General Assembly shows Bessent peering down at his phone to read a message from someone whose initials match those of Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins. And she wasn't happy.

"We bailed out Argentina yesterday (Bessent) and in return, the Argentine's removed their export tariffs on grains, reducing their price, and sold a bunch of soybeans to China, at a time when we would normally be selling to China. Soy prices dropping further because of it. This gives China more leverage on us," Rollins wrote.

Along with Rollins' message was a link to grain trader Ben Scholl's criticism of Bessent for pledging that "we stand ready to do what is needed to support Argentinan and the Argentine people."

"China is up to 20 cargoes of Argentine soybeans while we are busy bailing out Argentina," Scholl wrote. "They think you are stupid."

I'll gladly pay you $100 billion on Tuesday for the $100 billion I fucked up on Monday

because I wasted $100 billion last Saturday

because I spent $100 billion on a 3rd world country last Thursday

Instead of spending the $100 billion that I stole from Americans last Wednesday on... America.

Did I mention I spent all YOUR new tax money on a different country?
