Picked up a grandkid at odark thirty and headed to Bokellia. Out of the ramp in my Mako 171. Went out to the Bokellia bar. Throwing top waters and some soft plastic paddle tails.
One small trout. Headed over to Turtle Bay. Light chop, beautiful sunrise and moonset.

Without rain for several weeks, water is very clear. One small snook. Headed to the stilt houses near Captiva pass. One small trout, but we see the tarpon.

Head out to Captiva Pass. Throwing spooltech and large paddle tails. We start hitting gag and red grouper all under sized but plenty of them.

Grandkid has the stradic 5000 with 40# power pro and 40# seaguar leader. Large white paddle tail with yellow jig head. Darn if he doesn't jump a tarpon. Maybe 40-50 pounds. Gets one jump and heads down. Line is running out. I start the boat and start chasing it down. To no avail. Hook comes out. By now its around noon and its hot. Back to the ramp.
Home . Next trip over that way, no messing around.....tarpon or bust.
