According to the reports, Peart died on January 7 in Santa Monica, California after a years-long battle with brain cancer. He was 67 years old. Huge loss, shocked. Thought for sure his hands would heal up and we would see one more album/tour, R50! I imagine he is looking down from somewhere, giggling at all the bands out there trying to figure out an "easy" RUSH song to cover this weekend...

I heard subdivisions on my boring rock station, a departure from the fifty safe songs they wear out every day over and over. It's the near perfect combination of music, drums, lyrics and it's time. It stands the test of time. I flip around stations while driving and wonder if it's evidence of ADD. That song is a masterpiece. So many worlds to aligned for that. The talented musicians on top of the universal restlessness of youth and the bristle at conformity. This man put his mark on the world and his passing reminds us of his contributions.

You can count all that in 4/4 but it's true the drum part is impossible for a typical drummer.

That guy knows too much about music! That would drive me crazy to have to keep count like that.

Seeing Neil play his solo live with his rotating kit was like watching a human octopus.... RIP. I almost got kicked out of the show at Madison Square Garden in '91 for "smoking that funny stuff"

September of 2007, I was at the show in Milwaukee at the Marcus amphitheater. Snakes and Arrows tour. Nowadays everyone has a camera and they dont even try to stop filming, but at that time they still tried to keep a lid on it. I stuffed my mini DVD recorder in my pants and went in. It didnt take long into the show before a security guy grabbed me and said come with me. My son was 11 at the time and was kinda freaking out as I was escorted away. He was with his uncles so I just told him everything was fine, be right back. An entourage of security guys formed around me as we descended down towards the stage. The closer we got the happier I was, and at stage level I slowed to a crawl to take in the guys jamming. So we literally go under the stage, into the bowels of the stadium and I am surrounded by a squad of thugs demanding my camera. I held my ground, No way are they getting my camera! I stayed calm and explained that I was on a family vacation, I had called the box office and was told the camera would be fine, AND my 11 year old son was sitting in the stands wondering where his dad was. I had the feeling they wanted me to get belligerent so they could, uh, get more proactive in restraining me. I stayed cool and rational. Had to be a half dozen of them, I had no choice.Once they realized I was not altered and also not giving up my family vacay film, they backed down and made me remove the battery. Guess they took that as a win, so I was allowed back in. If my kid had not been there Im pretty sure I would have been tossed. I have a really cool video/souvenir as a result...

Didn't get into their older good stuff until I started experimenting with that funny stuff ?? |

Fucking epic! Geddy still got the voice. So awesome to see the two of them performing again. Many many memories and feel good vibes. Almost didn't get to see the last show. Was 2015 when they toured and I saw only 35 shows announced I was a bit puzzled. That's a baby tour for RUSH surely they would do a second leg, announce more shows and swing back to Florida. Turns out Neil was suffering from severe tendonitis which hampered his playing. He always said when it was done it was done, he would never perform if he could not do it to his top level. So the tour was short by design and luckily I bought tickets to the Tampa show at Amalie. Took my two kids and went with a buddy and his wife. We couldn't figure out what the HC was on our tickets. Turns out it was a handicapped booth at club level right above the lower bowl. We lucked out. Our own private balcony with enough room for 15 people but it was only us. More room than I've ever had at a concert. And the show, epic as always. They started with the full stage ensemble, enough amps, lighting props and laser lights to power a small country. And they began with music from the most recent album and worked there way backwards chronologically, album by album. Each time they went farther back in time, a section of the set (amps, effects, screens, etc.) would be removed off the stage until in the end it was almost bare. Finishing with stuff from the very first albums and the stage made to look like a high school dance hall which is basically where they began. It was May 24th so they shocked everyone by doing Lakeside Park off Caress of Steel. "everyone would gather, on the 24th of May, sitting in the sands to watch the fireworks display "! They brought out the double necks, both Gedd and Al, for Xanadu. It was epic and will go down as my favorite RUSH show ever. Great memories...

Classic, I have a similar story about the goons trying to find and confiscate my camera at one of the early-80's Rock & Roll Superbowl events at the Tangerine Bowl (Citrus Bowl, Camping World Stadium). Too long to type details, but I got it in and snagged some decent shots. 35mm SLR body was under my nutsack where he didn't want to frisk. Buddy had my telephoto lens in his pocket, skated in undetected. Guard found my star filter and 5 rolls of film, but thought he'd hit the narco-motherload when he found a plastic sandwich baggie in one of my pockets. It was full of vanilla wafers, so he confiscated those.

Vanilla wafers are addictive.

Wow, that really needs to get more views. One of the coolest and most original tributes I've ever seen (and I'm only 6 minutes into it; hafta watch the rest later).
I love how they incorporated the members and some album cover art into their marching formations. (Usually not that easy to say something nice about Ohio State U, either! ) |

The Immortal! Never gets old watching him play. Loved a couple of those deep cuts. Presto, perhaps the most underrated and cerebral RUSH album ever. I am made from the dust of the stars, and the oceans flow in my veins. Special meaning for a surfer IMHO. And Faithless from Snakes and Arrows. Fools and thieves are well disguised in the temple and marketplace. Truth! Saw them 15 times. Wish it had been 30. Never considered a RUSH cover band but now I would jump to go see YYnot. They are amazing and just got a new lead singer that kills it. Been lobbying on there FB page to get them back to Melbourne. Would be epic at the King Center...

Frickin awesome! Al and Ged so still have it. Dave Grohl, Chad Smith and Danny Carey killing it for Neil. And another 100 million young people around the globe thinking damn, would have loved to seen these old guys in their prime...
