A genuine void. Your replacement?

Haven't found one.

We loved how fresh his vegetables were, it was so much better than the generic Chinese fair that's available from every strip mall.

If anyone has suggestions, I'm all ears.

Mrs. tom claimed his hotsour soup had curative magical powers. Judging from the results, i believe. ..

We were in the habit of writing down our order and texting a picture of it to him.

My wife sent an order one day and he responded that he was in Japan and had closed his shop. We were bummed.

I know the name, but can't remember anything about it. Where was it?

Ha, I'm old so my landmarks are dated. On South Patrick, across the street from where Doubles was, it's Zon now, old folks home, haha; and, in the same strip mall that had the Kabboord's dojo at the end, it's Animal Fitness (?) now.

tom - strictly takeout, right? If so, I remember it. Zon was originally the Pines hotel, with a par 3 behind it. Doubles was in the old 7-11 (where Kaboord's Martial Arts just move out of) in the same strip mall as Yoshi's. A bit of history.

should have said, "Doubles was originally in the old 7-11..." They moved across the street a few years after opening (in the early 80s?).

Was there an "old" 7-11 there different from the one that's there now?

IIRC, Double's was never "in" the 7-11 (new or old)...

From 1987 to about 2004/2005 Double's was in the first unit of the strip mall (later Kaboord's and Animal Fitness) just north of the current 7-11. Sometime in the 1990's they expanded half a unit northward in the same strip mall to add tables and a game room.

They moved across the street to The Pines restaurant shortly after the 2004 hurricanes.

Jeff, our own political thinker, was the proprietor and instigator of Yoshi's. I believe his parents were involved with the kitchen which likely is one of the reasons for the quality. We met Jeff's Japanese girlfriend there, sorry, I don't remember her name, and believe Jeff went to Japan to be with her. Would like to think it's a happy ending.

__________

Yes, there was and it was in the spot where Kaboord's just moved out of. When Double's first opened they were in the same spot and, yes, they quickly expanded into the shop next door to the north, putting in pool tables, etc. When Double's moved into the old Pines (now Zon), Steve Kaboord moved in. Double's was the first occupant after 7-11 built their new (now old) store (to the south, where it is now on the corner of Banana River). This is not unusual for 7-11. When a store gets old or too small, they move across the street and build a new store. An example is when they moved from the northeast corner of Croton/Aurora (where La Preferida is now) to their current location on the northwest corner. Another example is on Ocean Blvd in S. Patrick Shores. (They moved from the small strip mall just to the west on OB to the corner of OB and A1A.) (I was there when they first opened and bought XMen #1 there. Wish I still had it. Also, when they first brought ICEEs, not Slurpees, and 7-11 beer, which my dad said was "God Awful".)

I played basketball with Ray F for several years and we used to go there when he moved back from Tally and opened it.

So, now that's settled, no good AmeriChinese locally? Pretty good Cubans at the food truck corner of Malabar and US1, but that's another story.

We have liked Jade Palace for years. Can't say it's "good AmeriChinese", but it suits us. It was really good when it opened, was sold and went mediocre, but appears to be revived the last few years. We have eaten there every Christmas Eve with the family for about 25 yrs (although the crowd is dwindling as we get older). We go there occasionally during the year, but always get the Hot and Sour soup (to go) whenever a cold or flu is coming on. I think it is the best around.

Sounds like our Bamboo Panda.

All we have is the New China express take out, and that's always a coin toss. We do have a new takeout hibachi; it's cheap and pretty good. Three pounds of food for just over 11 bucks. What it lacks in quality, it makes up for in quantity.
