PENSACOLA, Fla. (AP) - Florida Congressman Matt Gaetz said President Donald Trump should pardon himself and others in his administration before leaving office to prevent the "radical left" from prosecuting them.

"President Trump should pardon Michael Flynn," Gaetz said. "He should pardon the Thanksgiving turkey. He should pardon everyone from himself to his administration officials to Joe Exotic if he has to."

He should do just that. The deranged progs have been calling for him to be jailed despite not even a hint of lawbreaking. Clearly, they would be more than happy to put him in jail despite no crime being commmitted. He should short circuit that type of illegal and unconstitutional threat.

He should, that would be hilarious. Icing on the cake of presidential misconduct.

Now I'll leave the lawyering to you, but I was under the layman's impression that a pardon involves some admission of guilt or wrongdoing, no? Burdick?

Yes, it does. You can't be pardoned for NOT doing a crime.

But I guess tRump is unaware that he cannot pardon himself.

Maybe Qrump is afraid of Federal charges against him...?

Hey lawyers what is your take here:

Fun fact; now he's been pardoned, Mike Flynn loses all protection against compelled testimony under the 5th Amendment, so he can be subpoenaed anytime by the House and if he lies, he goes to jail.

"Michael Flynn was a paid foreign asset of the Turkish government after he was appointed National Security Advisor. This would be akin to Jake Sullivan currently being on the take from the Iranians.

It is a scandal without modern precedent. Trump and the GOP own it."

There will LOTS of pardons coming. Gaetz, in between his asskissing and worse, is being used to float this action to get the base used to it and agree with it. They are using Gaetz to politicize the pardons and use it to state loudly and often that these pardons are necessities to avoid the future prosecutions. Those are labeled witch hunts and the pardons are being rationalized by the the previous "witch hunts" that found nothing. The laying of the ground work must come from outside trump and back the appearance of a good idea that he really thinks about, tries to avoid and ultimately decides to do because the demon democrats are likely to "lock them up."

Trump should be forced to identify the specific crimes he making pardons for. That would make his pardons for his family interesting.

It also means they are admitting guilt to whatever crime they are being pardoned for.

From today's Politico article:

>> Trump's pardon absolves Flynn of "any and all possible offenses" arising from Mueller's investigation, as well as any related grand jury proceedings. The clemency grant uses sweeping language, immunizing Flynn from charges based on "facts and circumstances, known to, identified by, or in any manner related to the investigation of the Special Counsel."

Some legal experts described Trump's move as perhaps the broadest act of clemency since President Gerald Ford pardoned Richard Nixon in 1974.

"Pardons are typically directed at specific convictions or at a minimum at specific charges," said Margy Love, former pardon attorney for Presidents George H.W. Bush and Bill Clinton, who now leads the Collateral Consequences Resource Center. "I can think of only one other pardon as broad as this one, extending as it does to conduct that has not yet been charged, and that is the one that President Ford granted to Richard Nixon."<<

Trump "could" perhaps pre-pardon himself. So what? Presidential Pardons are only good for FEDERAL cases, not State or Local.

Ironically, Biden actually *wants* Trump to pardon himself.

It gets him out of the awkward situation of whether he should or should not pardon Trump himself for the good of the country (as Ford did with Nixon)

it's a win-win-win for Biden if Trump pardons himself:

a) those who say 'hell no, don't pardon that crook' are satisfied.

b) those who say 'pardon him to avoid escalating division' are satisfied.

c) Trump is still in an endless world of shit with his many non-federal legal problems.. which is all beyond Biden's control

So go for it Tubby! Accept your guilt and Steaks away...

Pardoning for the sake of self preservation, definitely a new low, and we were already in the gutter.

The GOP is trying to explain to Trump that pardoning his personal lawyer, children and in laws makes them look criminals. Trump is trying to explain to them that he doesn't care. Everyone is a criminal depending on who's in power and he will be pardoning them anyway.
