Ms Noem wrote in the memoir of trying to teach Cricket, a 14-month old wirehaired pointer, how to behave by taking her on a pheasant hunt with some older dogs.

"I hated that dog," she said.

The situation made her realise "another unpleasant job needed to be done" that day - getting rid of a male goat her family owned.

The goat was "nasty and mean", smelled "disgusting, musky, rancid", and would chase her young children, knocking them down.

Ms Noem said she shot down the goat in the same manner as Cricket, though the goat survived the first bullet, forcing her to go back to her truck to retrieve another shell.

The school bus dropped her children off shortly afterwards.

Noticing that the dog was nowhere to be found, her daughter asked: "Hey, where's Cricket?"



Shooting a dog barely a year old because you "hated it"? Yup, its the Pro Dog-Killing Party alright.

This is her attempt to show she's capable of killing a work dog, not a pet, as a farmer capable of hard farm decisions. This was not a work dog. Gentlemen, I have correction to make. I have to correct myself when I'm wrong and in this case, I said that Noem was done. Trump responds to backlash over Noem killing her dog: 'We all have bad weeks'


Former President Donald Trump praised South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem as a "terrific person" when asked in an interview about the backflash she received over revelations in her new book that she shot and killed her 14-month-old dog.

"She had a bad week. We all have bad weeks," Trump told radio hosts Clay Travis and Buck Sexton in an interview that aired Tuesday.

After Trump's interview aired, Biden campaign spokesperson James Singer said in a statement, "At the Biden campaign, we are proudly anti-puppy-killing and don't think those who murder puppies are 'terrific.'"
