WASHINGTON (AP) - President-elect Donald Trump stunned the Pentagon and the broader defense world by nominating Fox News host Pete Hegseth to serve as his defense secretary, tapping someone largely inexperienced and untested on the global stage to take over the world's largest and most powerful military.

The news was met with bewilderment and worry among many in Washington as Trump passed on a number of established national security heavy-hitters and chose an Army National Guard captain well known in conservative circles as a co-host of Fox News Channel's "Fox & Friends Weekend."

While some Republican lawmakers had a muted response to the announcement, others called his combat experience an asset or said he was "tremendously capable."

I was right.

I know nothing about the guy and will reserve judgment until I see what he does with this position. However, looking at that write up, he seems to have a history of caring about our vets. Also, don't think he's bought and paid for, and will hopefully keep us out of conflicts.

Whereas the current guy holding this position is a retired 4-Star General. But his previous history compromised of positions on the corporate boards of steel manufacturing giant Nucor Corporation, Tenet Healthcare and United Technologies, which merged with defense contractor Raytheon Company in 2020. The merged corporation, Raytheon Technologies, is among the top five top lobbying spenders in the defense sector and spent almost $11 million on lobbying in 2020. Austin earned seven figures from the defense companies. Austin stepped down from all three board positions following his nomination in 2020. Prior to joining the Biden administration, Austin worked alongside fellow cabinet member Antony Blinken at Pine Island Capital Partners, a private equity firm investing in defense companies that touted its access to Washington.

You clowns would rather a corrupt lobbyist that will further enrich the war machine with his position, just because he was once a 4 star general.

Personally, I would rather someone who doesn't profit off of war, hold that position regardless of how many medals he got.
