Wow, can he bottle lightning twice? This will be very interesting. I am impressed they can overlook his failures at his last school.

Seems like a safe enough choice. Familiarity w/ the program helps him hit the ground running; hopefully in time to minimize some of the transfer portal bleeding. Hopefully also a return to some pass-happy offense!

It's been less than a week since UCF announced the return of Scott Frost as its football coach, and the athletic department is already feeling the move's impact.

Mackenzie Milton will end up being the coach when Frost moves on again.

I saw an interview with assistant coach Sean Beckton about the uptick in confidence with Frost's return. I played ball with Sean in High School. Hope UCF improves with the new coach this year. At least they don't play UF again.

Good and quick read at end of UCF spring practice:
Focused on retention, UCF football coach Scott Frost laments transfer portal 'bidding war' Story by Chris Boyle, Daytona Beach News-Journal . 2h . 4 min read https://www.msn.com/en-us/spor...idding-war/ar-AA1DfVw9 |

The portal sounds like a nightmare. I don't know how this whole college level doesn't descend into money ball.

It's going that way. Starting Jul1 schools can spend 20 million dollars a piece on players payrolls. Not all schools can afford that. Thus, more separation from the haves and have nots.
Basketball is even worse in football on the transfers. It's also why most schools have gotten away from hosting spring games. They don't want recruiting tape on potential players leaving. The portal opens towards the end of most spring practices. |

Big 12 Media Days this week. Scott Frost quote:
"I didn't want to leave UCF," Frost said. "I always said I would never leave unless it was some place you could go and potentially win a national championship. And you know, I got tugged in a direction to go try to help my alma mater. And I didn't really want to do it. It wasn't a good move. "And I'm lucky that I have an opportunity to get back to a place where I was a lot happier." |

UCF is 2-0 going into Scott Frost 2.0 era.
First game against Jacksonville State was a good warm up for all the new players and coaches. UCF won at the final minute drive 17-10. Javaen Jackson, transfer Qb from Indiana played pretty good from the Qb2 position to win it. Jax State beat a real good Liberty team for their 2nd game and Jax State did win C-USA last year. So, maybe not as a bad as a team as expected. UCF survived. 2nd game was a blow out against fcs NC A&T. it was 40 to nothing at half. UCF looked like world beaters on both defense and offense. But, keep in mind NC A&T hasn't won a game since 2023. And, that is in the fcs level. EVERYBODY scored in that game and a lot of 2nd and 3rd stringers got playing time. The first two games were perfect soft opener schedule for UCF who is breaking in 70 new transfer players and entire new coaching regime. Next up, UCF has to battle BWU. Bye Week University can be tough but Scott Frost is a very inspirational and player's coach that will keep them sharp and get ready for Game 3 against the North Carolina Tarheels. Bellichek won his first game as a college coach yesterday defeating Charlotte 20-3. They play Richmond next weekend. A tune up game for them I'm sure. They lost the first game against TCU. TCU is a great team this year. |

Gotta hope Frost can keep this up. There's definitely some talented legs on the team, but winning against a school full of farmers and engineers is no great accomplishment.
It was interesting that Gus Malzahn got so much credit in last week's FSU victory. The articles kept noting he was "former UCF head coach." My neighbor (an FSU alum) declared Malzahn an offensive genius after FSU's blowout win this weekend. Nole QB Tommy Castellanos "from Boston College" is also getting a lot of love, with people conveniently forgetting he was UCF's QB2 before going to BC. And of course former UCF QB Dillon Gabriel went to the Cleveland Browns in round 3 of this year's NFL draft. Former UCF head coach Josh Heupel is doing pretty well at Tennessee. My rambling point here is that UCF has to figure out some way to retain and maximize its talent, or identify if there is some kind of internal cancer driving it away. Lack of money to feed the NIL monster is only going to make it worse. Edited: 09/07/2025 at 06:36 PM by CurtisEflush |

I too wondered how the newly minted malzahn would somehow shine at FSU when the shine was definitely off the apple at UCF. The bigger mystery is why UF doesn't have an offensive coordinator or a coach that understands time outs. I miss the old aac conference schedule where UCF played USF last. Those games in Frost's first tenure were the most exciting games of the entire NCAA.
