Several people on the list told NBC News that they had been pulled aside at the border after the date the list was compiled and were told they were being questioned as part of a "national security investigation." During that screening, journalists and lawyers describe being told that they are being interviewed as part of a national security investigation and that they must give officers access to their cell phones. "It has a real chilling effect on people who might go down there. Conflating socialism with fascism brushes over the real pitfalls of autocratic leadership and consolidated power. Perhaps that's why many seem all too willing to allow one man to leverage unprecedented manipulation and control over the critical checks and balances that made America Great. And they've fallen for the same empty promises that have always enabled autocratic rule, economic prosperity and protection from false fears.
