US officials made list of reporters, lawyers, activists to question at the border. Several people on the list told NBC News that they had been pulled aside at the border after the date the list was compiled and were told they were being questioned as part of a "national security investigation." During that screening, journalists and lawyers describe being told that they are being interviewed as part of a national security investigation and that they must give officers access to their cell phones. "It has a real chilling effect on people who might go down there. I was going to go this week, but I had to worry about whether I could get back in [to the US]," one lawyer speaking on the condition of anonymity.

We'll certainly end up just like Venezuela and the USSR if we have public health insurance and universities, trains and windmills. Never mind that Trump has more in common with Maduro and Putin than any other politician in US history.

Americans are rightfully cautious. Over the years, the left has shown admiration for quite a few bad socialist and communist leaders. This would lead anyone with half a brain to the conclusion that if we go down the socialist path that the left doesn't plan on stopping with a welfare safety-net and free education.

"You gotta give him credit," Trump said. "How many young guys - he was, like, 26 or 25 when his father died - take over these tough generals, and all of a sudden ... he goes in, he takes over, and he's the boss," Trump said. "It's incredible. He wiped out the uncle, he wiped out this one, that one. I mean, this guy doesn't play games. And we can't play games with him."

Mohamad BS
"He told me that he had nothing to do with it," Trump said of the Saudi prince. Trump added, "Will anybody really know? All right, will anybody really know? But he did have certainly people that were reasonably close to him and close to him that were probably involved. You saw we put on very heavy sanctions, massive sanctions on a large group of people from Saudi Arabia. But at the same time we do have an ally and I want to stick with an ally that in many ways has been very good."

All of this praise for murderous gangster autocratic fascists, while disparaging the USA intelligence officials and attacking the FBI to protect his own criminal empire.

Putin
"He's running his country and at least he's a leader, unlike what we have in this country," Trump said when asked by "Morning Joe" Republican host Joe Scarborough about Putin's alleged killing of journalists and political opponents.

"I think our country does plenty of killing also, Joe, so you know. There's a lot of stupidity going on in the world right now, a lot of killing, a lot of stupidity," he said.
Finally, when asked whether he would condemn Putin's alleged brutal tactics, Trump responded: "Sure, absolutely."

TRUMP: I BELIEVE PUTIN "MEANS IT" WHEN HE DENIES ELECTION MEDDLING
"Every time he sees me, he says, 'I didn't do that,' and I really believe that when he tells me that, he means it," Trump said of the Russian president, in a conversation with reporters Saturday morning onboard Air Force One. "But he says, 'I didn't do that.' I think he is very insulted by it, if you want to know the truth. Don't forget. All he said was he never did that, he didn't do that. I think he is very insulted by it, which is not a good thing for our country."

"The president launched into several unrelated diatribes. One of those was commenting on the recent missile launches by the government of North Korea. And, essentially, the president said he did not believe that the North Koreans had the capability to hit us here with ballistic missiles in the United States. And he did not believe that because President Putin had told him they did not. President Putin had told him that the North Koreans don't actually have those missiles," McCabe said his colleague told him. McCabe said U.S. intelligence officials at the briefing tried to tell the president otherwise. "Intelligence officials in the briefing responded that that was not consistent with any of the intelligence our government possesses," McCabe said. "To which the president replied, 'I don't care. I believe Putin.'"

There's a big difference between kissing someone's ass for the sake of politics and admiring ones policy. I don't know anyone who would argue that Trump is trying to take US policy in the direction of North Korea or Saudi Arabia.

The list sadly goes on to include Assad, Qadaffi, Saddam, Rodrigo Duterte, and others.

Conflating socialism with fascism brushes over the real pitfalls of autocratic leadership and consolidated power. Perhaps that's why many seem all too willing to allow one man to leverage unprecedented manipulation and control over the critical checks and balances that made America Great. And they've fallen for the same empty promises that have always enabled autocratic rule, economic prosperity and protection from false fears.
