They haven't ruined Christianity any more than our politicians have ruined politics. Both ideals are pure until staffed with us unwashed masses, complete with drives for power, prestige and possessions. These current sheep are being shepherded by wolves in sheep's clothing but it's still better than thinking for themselves. But they are indispensable as a bad example. Inevitable too since we all reach beyond our grasp and see others failures clearly while our own are invisible. The social nature of species engaged in group think in ways that prize tribal identity and loyalty over thought and rationality. It's cyclical. The pendulum has swung ugly right snd soon it will swing ugly left, fueling another ugly swing right. In those rare moments in the middle when the world works and you sense your faith in humanity restored, time takes it toll and the pendulum swings. It never stays still. It's who we are as a species, forever doomed to put our toddler hand on the burner only to ban all burners and then back to open burners.

If you think Christianity in the US is fine, talk to the teenagers. They have no use for it at all.
