Florida's hourly minimum wage rate (currently $8.56) will increase to $10.00 on Sept. 30. The minimum wage then will increase by $1.00 each year until it reaches $15.00 an hour in 2026. The minimum wage rate applies to all public- and private-sector employers, regardless of size or number of employees.

Gradual increase to avoid shocking the system.

If the minimum wage goes to $10
What does that equate to in Jan 20 2021 money, before this inflation?

Does the rise to $10 at least cover the cost of inflation over the last 8 months?
Or are they still worse off for their election choices?

10.00/8.56 = +16.8%
11.00/10.00 = +10%
12/11 = +9.1%
13/12= +8.3%
14/13 = +7.7%
15/14 = +7.1%

15/8.56 = +75.2%

Average compounded increase = 9.8%/year over those 6 years.

So they will beat recent inflation, catch up for past stagnation, but probably contribute to some future inflation.

At the federal level, this represents the relative decline over time:

An example from Ohio, how it's becoming more difficult to educate your way out of a minimum-wage life:

So if you work 10 hours per week, and then work full time during breaks AND save every dime you earn...
You can't afford to put yourself through College in Ohio?? WHAAAT?
Why is working 10 hours per week @ less than $10 per hour NOT ENOUGH to pay for college???

So now everywhere you go you see Help wanted signs...
Employees are at a premium, now is their chance to bargain for a higher wage.
Supply and Demand.
Just say, 'I will accept $15 an hour to do that job...'

BUT, NO, sorry, the law and the voters though it was a good idea that you only get $10.
You have to wait a couple years to get that $15 and instead of giving you merit raises every years, you just get minimum wage increases.
So the person who gets hired three years from now starts off with the same wage you will be getting even though you've been working at the job for those same three years..

On that graph about the Real value compared to the nominal value of the minimum wage...

Check out 2005 to 2010...
Who was President between 2005 and 2010?
Real and nominal values equaled out and went from $5 to $7.
Then right at the end, say around 2009, the values start tanking...

But that spike in value, thats the kind of policies we need to help those poor people...

Holy $hit can you imagine being around nobodyelse for very long? The lack of basic math/Econ understanding is frightening.

I think it's obvious this could've been done better. But in a QOP state this is what the fuck happens. The legislature was never going to do shit so the people of Florida took it into their own hands. And the people of Florida are a fairly sketch group.
