Carter created the Department of Education back in 1979. At that time we were rated No. 1 in education worldwide. Now, 45 years later, we're rated 28th and have spent trillions of our money on it in funding.

Common sense says, kill it, its not working and a waste of tax dollars

What say the resident common-sense-lacking-libtards? Should Trump kill it or keep it, and why?

This is a culture war impact point. Conservatives are threatened by critical thinkers skeptical of educated people voting against them so instead of believing that they cannot withstand logical scrutiny, they attack the education system. This is why they home school their kids and send their kids to schools that indoctrinate them into their Christian values at their expense of their education. They attack public schools as woke factories turning out trans kids and dream of using taxpayer monies for their religious schools. They are succeeding.

The failure wasn't the passage of time since Carter, its republicans gutting the education system's funding and then questioning their results with less money spent on education. Their attack on schools comes with attacks on testing as well. They don't like people relying on test results that show homeschoolers are academically behind their public school peers so they seek to attack standardized testing. They want a test that says their little God squad is just as smart as a kid that sat in a desk and hit his benchmarks. Not an easy task.

Well, the educational system certainly did fail obie.

But the real reason they want to get rid of it is to breed the kind of systemic ignorance that keeps them winning elections (as JB points out).

Typical of the libs to try to explain away failure and double down on more of the same. Afraid of education fund going to christian schools? Start your own satan school.

Can you point me to the Republican plan for the replacement? Some 90% of children in the US attend public schools. Are we to cut them free and hope for the best?

And sorry, concepts of a plan don't count.

P.S. God I hope he points me to Project 2025.

Are you really that obtuse?

Each state already has its own DOE, thus the redundancy of the Federal DOE. Which, as already been proven.....hasn't done shit but waste a shit load of money to make things worse.

All facts, Cole. All objective free from any opinion. Yet...the concept flies over your head.

Nope, instead of forming an opinion on objective statements/facts, your entire MO is "Trump bad, anything done by Orange man....Bad"

You (and the rest of the libtarded) form your opinions from prejudiced, hate infused narrative...void of any objective notions or facts. AND YOU STILL DON"T GET IT!!!!

hahahahahahahahahahaha

Let me help you there obie.

"Can you point me to the Republican plan for the replacement?" Specific question.

"Some 90% of children in the US attend public schools." Specific fact.

"Are we to cut them free and hope for the best?" Thoughtful question.

See? It's not so hard if you stop stuttering and pay attention.

As noted, it's already there via the States. You don't replace waste

"Some 90% of children in the US attend public schools." Specific fact.

What's your point?

"Are we to cut them free and hope for the best?" Thoughtful question.

Stupid question since they're not being cut free, and the money saved from a redundant, failed federal bureaucracy is real...not just hope

See? It's not so hard if you stop stuttering and pay attention.
Let's see, so far today we've learned you guys love lobbyist for the War Machine as our Secretary of Defense, and are all spun up over an outsider with a history of actually caring about our troops.

And judging by this outrage, you love a fat, bloated, wasteful government.

"Party of the working class" hahahahahahaha

More like mouthpieces for the establishment.

It's a question of how you see education. If you see it as an investment, you will fight to fund it adequately and make sure that it succeeds. If you see it as a cost, you complain about paying teachers, maintaining schools and funding retirements and pensions. It's a question of not only if students get an education but what values are being taught and by whom. This is where vocal majorities seek to teach their values and assume that their values should be everyone's values. With the rise of Trumpism, trumpers believe that inclusivity, tolerance of different races, color, creeds and sexual orientations has no place in a tax payer funded public school. They even believe that teaching our own United States history of slavery and racism because even though factually and historically accurate, it would upset white students. Other actions include removing books with concepts they deem threatening. Now there are people requesting school boards to remove books even though they don't even have children in school or even don't have children at all.
The GOP in my county wanted to bankrupt the school system by cutting their funding. The school board responded by asking the county directly for a half cent school tax, a work around. The voters approve it every time. The GOP tried to make the school board positions party affiliated. That was denied by a super majority. In short, the GOP wants to turn out secular private schools into Christian schools that condemn gay people, hide our history of racism, teach the Ten Commandments as "historical" truths and their underlying theme is that even when they try to remake the school system in their image, it still fails. This is the part where the GOP seeks to take the funding away from schools and give those funds to private schools and home schoolers. They are the problem and the cure.

Investment? How would you rate an investment that cost trillions and resulted in a negative return? Keep throwing money at it?

How do the homeschoolers fare with their moms as their teachers when take the SAT? ACT? What effect will this large of students unable to meet minimum standardized test performance bench marks. What about these home schoolers going to private Christian universities and never leaving their ideological perimeters? Are these people insulated and sequestered from everyone outside this bubble?
