Simpson stopper (Myrcianthes fragrans) is easy to find, can be cut into a formal hedge (!), and is a Brevard native barrier island plant, highly tolerant of spray. It also makes an elegant tall shrub, the size of a medium crape myrtle, with similar interesting bark. Wild olive (Forestiera segregata) is also pretty available, also beach, and takes extremely well to being poodled into whatever shape. Lots of Vero Beach's park topiaries are wild olive. |
