Natural immunity is great, but in order to get it you have to risk permanent organ damage and death.

But, someone who has recovered AND gets vaccinated is probably in the best possible immune system condition.

However, as with the vaccine, natural immunity is not permanent. At some point we have to look at long term strategies, and getting Covid every year probably isn't the best plan.

But if you want to try it, that's cool.

I read through one of the studies. The stats support the conclusion that vaccines could be prioritized for people that have not been exposed to infection. But they also show the vaccine is at least as effective as exposure to infection at preventing infection or reinfection. So, you can achieve immunity almost immediately and not be a risk to your fellow man and not die or suffer long term effect from the virus. What the study does not state or support is the claim that natural immunity is better in any way.

Taken right from the conclusion of one of the studies:

"This analysis demonstrated that natural immunity affords longer lasting and stronger protection against infection, symptomatic disease and hospitalization due to the Delta variant of SARS-CoV-2, compared to the BNT162b2 two-dose vaccine-induced immunity."

There is "science" on "both sides" to support the inherent bias we all have going into this. That alone proves its no longer science, but manipulation. By which side, though? No science is black and white. You worried the vaccine will give you a miscarriage? Then honestly compare the rate of pregnancy complication from vaccination compared to pregnancy complication from infection. That isn't what people are doing when they are hyping up what the vaccine "might do" or saying that they won't take the vaccine because of a <1/1,000,000 rate of a particular injury from vaccine (like the rare issues with the J&J and clotting) while ignoring the 1.5/100 chance of an infection killing you. Most mandates have an "or regular testing" opt out. The problem is that testing lets things slip through. There is no great immunity test right now. And rates matter. If a vaccine is 70% effective you still have a 30% chance of catching a disease if nobody around is vaccinated for a highly contagious disease. Guess what happens if everybody is vaccinated? The transmission of the disease goes way down because it is much harder for it to find susceptible hosts to spread and suddenly your individual odds of disease are much much lower than you get just from the vaccine alone. This is particularly important for people that have immune systems that don't work well and that do not get a great immune response from being vaccinated. This isn't about protecting you the individual. It is about producing an optimal community health outcome. As a side benefit you the individual are protected most by everybody around you having the highest possible immunity. I could go into a long discussion of Game Theory, Tragedy of the Commons, and the Freerider Problem as it applies to such dilemmas but that can wait.
