PEOPLE WITH GUNS KILL PEOPLE

Sure, people with knives can kill people too. Are there High Capacity Knives?
How many people can someone with a knife kill at one time?

People with cars can kill people.
But not anywhere near as many as a person with a high capacity gun.

We need change people!

And, it's obviously our republican leaders who need to change.

Mental illness epidemic has kids killing kids. Uvalde school shooting is only the latest

William Luther/San Antonio Expre/TNS
The Fort Worth Star-Telegram Editorial Board
Tue, May 24, 2022, 6:53 PM·

Not even two weeks ago, it was Buffalo, a horrific racist attack on innocent Black shoppers by a warped 18-year-old.

Today, it's Uvalde in South Texas, an inexplicable assault on elementary school children, perhaps as young as 7, also by a man still in his teens.

Many details remain unclear, and sweeping early conclusions are dangerous. But we know we have a mental health crisis with our youth. We know there are no easy answers. And we know we must act.

We'll fight, as we always do, over guns. We'll examine how the shooter got into the building and debate whether we can turn our schools into tighter fortresses.

We'll examine the law enforcement response, including why the Uvalde ISD's small police force wasn't able to neutralize an obvious threat. We'll dig into whether the shooter sent signals that he was capable of this and whether someone should have recognized them and acted.

We don't know yet what may have driven this particular teenager to such a heinous act. But we've known that more youths feel angry, disconnected, perhaps even hopeless. The COVID pandemic supercharged those problems. The isolation, the loss of meaningful social connection, the dependence on screens are a toxic mix when added to the inherent difficulties of adolescence.

Whatever else these mass violence events are, they are a screaming symptom of our overall epidemic of mental illness, at all ages. We must address it forthrightly.

Yes, guns must be part of the discussion. Sadly, many of the tropes that are rolled out in these circumstances are true: It was clearly far too easy for the shooter to obtain weapons. But he violated any number of laws already on the books and shouldn't have even had the handgun he used.

The U.S. is the only country to regularly suffer this kind and level of gun violence. But we don't do enough to keep guns out of the hands of those who might be dangerous.

The country is awash in guns, but the vast majority of them are legally and safely kept.

An appalling mass casualty event understandably draws attention. But American youths are quietly suffering every day, and many will harm themselves if not others.

We'll know more soon about what, if anything, could have prevented the Uvalde shooting. But we already know things we can do to help avoid more - in our families and communities, not just in our governments.

Will we do them?

True. The stigma around mental illness is huge, but starting to fade. Many of us may know someone mentally ill. Getting that person to admit it, and into counceling can be impossible. Counceling, support from good people and meds. can help a lot. But, many parents don't want to admit there is a problem. And many mentally ill will say, "I don't have a problem. Having said that, guns are too easy to get. No training, no license, just cash and carry. Something needs to change. The gun Lobby has too much power. The repubs don't care enough about solving the problem, to DO SOMETHING. Politics first. Party first. American citizens second. Sad.

Is it inevitable or is it preventable
It is preventable we know but we are ineffectual.
The mentally ill are not outliers, it's guns that are
The pro life party are coming out swinging and ready to spar
More thoughts more prayers more moments of silence
Less is more for them but there's always more violence

A study in impotence and plausible denial
The art of doing nothing American government style
Congress will get through this, doing nothing once more
It's not easy but what is for a parliament of whores.

Stay by for "this is no time to politicize a tragedy" and "let's give a big round of applause to our brave law enforcement heroes who took down the shooter after he only executed 20 innocent children".

Thanks, only took 10 minutes to prove my point. Instead of flapping endlessly, please tell us what needs to be done. Please tell of what actions you'll take to make a change. Are you going to write you congress person? Or are you gonna just continue to whine on 2ndlight.com like you have for the past 2 decades and continue your ineffective existence?

I've done so, but get nothing but canned responses. My recommendations in the other thread are very reasonable. The main thing is that gun manufacturers, venders and owners should be held responsible for any deaths their guns cause. This will make reasonable gun laws pop up like crazy and stop all the loop hole nonsense. Just imagine what a little accountability could do.

Are you also in the same bill going to hold knife manufacturers accountable for all that their knives kill?

Hammers?

Then who also do you hold accountable for the ghost guns?

How about bricks?

What an idiot you are!

Hammer is made for building.
Bricks are building materials
Ghost guns, plans for ghost guns should have incredibly high penalties. Ghost guns are not the main concern in most of the mass shootings.
A person with a knife cannot kill the mass amount one with a guns can.

Your logic is very idiotic. We have more regulations on automobiles, for manufacturers and drivers, than guns. And autos are not made for killing. Guns are.

Top it off, your logic, as stupid as it is, is not even an original thought. You copied those thoughts from some half ass right wing meme or site.

All that.

Include background checks FOR ALL.

And enforce the 2A as the Constitution states: for owners of arms to be part of a "Well Regulated Militia."

Included would be proper training on handling, storage, Laws (local, state, Federal), etc.

Is doxing all lawmakers at ALL levels who did not vote for increasing gun restrictions of any kind the only viable solution left on the table? being feeble and not allowing a vote on any related issues.. double strike points for that fuckup..

Does the list also need to include their children? & spouses? and grandchildren? and best friends?

People that they may actually care about - 'personally'..

Seems like the only solution is to make this a very very very personal issue - because it sure as fuck is to anyone who is affected..

Maybe they all need to be doxed at once in a massive nationwide list published on every street corner. Maybe that way they can't claim they were personally 'picked on'..

Maybe they will just need to know that they too can become a 'statistic' - like everyone else..

'Controlling' guns is obviously not going to work.

'Controlling' mental issues is obviously a lost cause also.. e.g. Sandy Hook killer used his moms AR..

Should everyone within a 500 ft radius of a gun need to get mentally 'cleared'? by who? someone who has a lot of good insurance and gets put in the big house if some they 'clear' fucks up?

Have we reached the point where Outlawing guns is the only logical choice.. Mandatory jail for any type of gun? No more 3 strikes BS..

Hey, you can thank the NRA and qop for getting us to this point...

Choices choices - consequences consequences............

Lurkmeat, saying you proved your point is like saying your emperor. You're not. You didn't. All that whining proves you're not really discussing this topic and all that unoriginal tired busted talking points won't change that.

Was curious myself so looked for one-

At least 20 teenagers and one adult were injured, two of them critically, Wednesday morning at Franklin Regional High School in Murrysville, Pa., when a 16-year-old fellow student attacked them with two knives.

And no one killed? Amazing. What would that kid have been able to do with an AR clone?

Damn near impossible to commit mass murder in minutes with a knife.

Imagine the deaths if it were a gun. "Injured" much better than dead. Knives can't compete with the harm guns do. Hence that old saying about "bringing a knife to a gunfight..." Do you even read what you write?

Why do you insist on being in attack mode all time? Yes I'm very aware of what wrote. I looked it up out of curiosity after you mentioned it, and just posted the info you asked for, without leaning either way on it.

Pray tell O wise ones, how do start solving the 'mental health' issue?

Take for example,, 'Sandy Hook' perhaps? Mommas gun...

And pray tell again, who 'pays' for the solution? literally?

Is my 'freedom' from your insanity 'free'?

Well for starters some of the $40b qoing to Ukraine could be put to better use by using it to overhaul our mental health care system. Not the answer but a start. Just my opinion of course.

Why the fuck would we want to do that? Continue caving into papa? Fuck that shit..

Joe's not on his payroll, unlike the orangatan...

Seems to me that fixing 'Mental health' is a problem that gun owner's should fund entirely on their own if they want to keep their guns...

Speaking of Mental Health...

Abbott calls Texas school shooting a mental health issue but cut state spending for it

https://www.nbcnews.com/news/u...-state-spend-rcna30557

UVALDE, Texas - Gov. Greg Abbott said Wednesday that the Uvalde school shooter had a "mental health challenge" and the state needed to "do a better job with mental health" - yet in April he slashed $211 million from the department that oversees mental health programs.

In addition, Texas ranked last out of all 50 states and the District of Columbia for overall access to mental health care, according to the 2021 State of Mental Health in America report.

Looks like criminal negligence.

Or the government can make some money by passing legislation that fines vendors and manufacturers for letting their guns go through loopholes or get in the hands of people that shouldn't have them and as Johnny stated, some taxes on guns that aid the cause. The money from that will pay for overhauling mental health system fast. Accountability from the top though, that will stop a lot of mass murder. Put a large fine or tax every time there is a mass murder on a manufacturer that has a gun in the mix. They'll start figuring out ways to stop this problem fast.

My point is everyone comes on here arguing and pointing figures which is pointless and futile, but no one does anything. I'm sick of all this shooting too. What can be done? Those are my thoughts, they are original, and you are wrong.

It does happen. And after researching it a little bit it's the go to method in countries with strict gun laws it seems. It also shows it's a mental health issue more than a gun law issue, though both need to be addressed.

If you knew you were going to be in a mass casualty event, one with a knife and one with an A/R and you have the choice of which one to be involved, what are you choosing?

There is a reason mentally deranged people target schools for mass shootings And not police stations or gun ranges. Fish in a barrel. There is an easy fix:

Obvious answer of course WTF. But also obvious that if one wants to cause harm, they are going to, one way or another.
Look I'm not trying to argue with you guys on this subject. I agree that it's too easy for just anyone to get a gun.
Stiffer laws will not affect my ability to get one if I choose to.
Stiffer laws also do not impinge on anyone's 2nd amendment rights.

yeah, but why not keep certain ways they can take out mass amounts quickly out of the equation, like a gun?

Why does the military arm soldiers marines etc with guns and not just knives? One is more effective at killing. Guess which one.

Yeah, I think we are on the same page here. Not sure why others here only want to go after you.

Maybe so, but the idea is that these types of mass shooters lately (loner, voices-in-the-head-type of psychos, but with no prev. criminal history) are too big of a pvssy to obtain firearms illegally in the black market, and they may not want to interface with sketchy people in the underworld. Factor in stricter gun laws with security-clearance-level of background checks, can also help weed these people out when trying to obtain guns legally

Of course there will always be some that can slip through the cracks, and even one mass shooting incident is too much. But we could also prevent just one

Anyone who attempts to murder their grandmother (shot in the face) then murders unknown never met innocent school children has SERIOUS mental issues.
