The various summer hats have been standard wear all over for a long time. Used to be made from "Panama" fiber from the leaves of a palm-like Ecuador plant, but I think the stuff used today is all synthetic.

I got a 3x beaver from my dad's collection when the fam moved to Utah. I also got a wide brim straw(ish) stetson I wore constantly in the hot months while working on the roofs. My sweat finally made it fall apart after 7 years.
