I thought they were only cold tolerant to 40 F..
Perhaps the flower problem is too much shade? Mine are both in containers and flower often. Gary |

Quote They tend to flower better when planted in a container and are root bound. I know of 2 that are about 7 feet tall and flower prolifically. The grower has planted them "up" by washing away the soil from the roots with a hose and exposing most of bulb each time he re-pots them. Feeds them Bougainvillae Special Fertilizer by Nursuryman Sur Gro. Interestingly they can be grown from seed of cuttings. Seed produces a virtually bulbless plant while cuttings can produce a bulb similar to a ponytail palm. There are several color variations ranging from pure white through various pinks to blood red. When in bloom (in a green house) these plants are aphid magnets. ------------------------- Duct tape is like the Force. It has a light side, a dark side, and holds the universe together. |

Great info, indeed mine are in pots somewhat small for the size of the plant.

I purchased a small specimen over the weekend and planted it in a pot using Cactus potting soil with rocks at the bottom for drainage. I noticed that the cactus potting soil contained very little to no perlite. Will it still drain well, or should I have added Perlite to it? This will be sitting in full sun relying on rain water.
I have another question. I've read numerous web pages on which grows better, seeds or cuttings, but they all say one thing or the other. Some people are adamant that cuttings will not get the bulbous base, while others say seeds won't get the bulbous base. Does anyone have a difinitive answer for this? ------------------------- |
