The sandbars here, over the last 5-8 years are dogshit compared to what they historically were....these more frequent, yearly....whether the beach needs it or not...sand dumps have destroyed the entirety of Brevard county sandbars.
That isnt to say there isnt a good one here or there or that ones dont briefly develop with the new sand, but cumulatively this process has caught up with our beaches and left thumpy inside sand in shin deep water with a deep trough that goes out beyond where the sandbars used to be. When is the last time you saw a knee-waist day break and peel to the beach? Drive from Cocoa to south mel beach and, by and large, this is the case.
Greg had a good post about it a while back talking about the sand grain size and why this is happening. Don't let them fool you on the "oh it comes from offshore so its natural". They are sucking mud off the bottom out there and dumping it on the beach....
Well said brother.
The general dismissive attitude of people really is really fascinating too as seen above. "it can't get worse." Read a history book and educate yourselves please. These things have cascading effects. On the plus side it really does help me understand how the general public thinks about things
